A Vintage Shorts “Short Story Month” Selection
On the day a plane crashed in Nigeria, Ukamaka lets into her apartment a neighbor in a Princeton sweatshirt she’d never met before to keep her company and pray. United in a common loss, Ukamaka is glad to have someone she can confide in about her home, her ex-boyfriend, her life as a graduate student in the United States, and her ambitions. But, in her eagerness to discover a new friend in Chinedu, Ukamaka is slow to realize the tragic and desperate secrets he is protecting from her.
In this poignant, stirring short depicting the solitary lives that immigrants face in the United States, acclaimed author of Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie celebrates faith and the fragile ties that can grant salvation.
An ebook short.

Reading the short story "The Shivering" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is like reading a novel. It is filled with themes. Some of those themes are religion, culture, alternative lifestyles, love and romance and tragedy. I chose to read the story because of the desire to know more about how people cope with tragedy. I also wanted to know more about how religions grow or are strained by different religious experiences. The author begins with an airplane crash. In it over one hundred passengers die. Ukamaka's boyfriend, Udenna, is in the crash. Although they have broken up, Ukamada still is tortured by their contact. She talks out her feelings with her new friend, Chinedu. While sharing her feelings with him, their religious values come into play. He is Pentecostal. She is a Catholic. One physical experience shared is shivering. Also, Chinedu shares his past Gay relationship.
It is amazing to read how talking, revealing ourselves, can lead to more and more openness. Liasons begin to resemble the unfolding of a many layered rose. Whether the reader agrees with these religious experiences or with these heart issues is not the point. The focus becomes about what can grow through releasing our pain to other people.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has the wonderful gift of uniting people with Africa, in this instance, it is Nigeria. There is a coming away from the short story or a long novel knowing that we are more alike than different. Therefore, fear is released, and there is the gaining of courage. In the process, ties to one another are renewed or sustained.

The Shivering Single A Vintage Short edition by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Good read, but very abrupt ending!
Haven’t read it yet; good price; excellent rating.
Love the work.
I wanted more story. It left me needing an end or conclusion.
Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I think u was expecting something more salacious from the blurb but this was fun and energising.
An excellent early short story by Adichie.
Really like her books, nice short story, maybe too short but beautiful metaphors that catch and show characters thoughs/feelings in a statement
