Book Review- The Accidental Boyfriend by Maggie Dallen
Holly wants to settle down and be stable. She believes her best friend Benjamin is the man for her. He doesn’t seem to be inclined to jump in that direction anytime soon. So Holly decides to take matters into her own hands. She follows him to Paris.
Jack can’t get Holly out of his mind. He volunteers to go the Paris to find her. It doesn’t take long to find her. She is shocked to see him and is confused about why he is here. They both believe they left the other behind previously. Now they are staying in the same penthouse and give into the sexual tension between them. However Holly wants stability, a family and a husband. Jack can’t do commitment. Of course feelings get involved and dreams aren’t always what they seem.
This book was just alright for me. I didn’t like Holly at all. She tried to make Benjamin love her. She was such a wild spirit, it was totally unbelievable that she would settle for someone like him. I liked her bravery to go where she wanted and do what she wanted. Then she kind of lost herself.
I liked Jack and Holly as a couple but couldn’t really connect with them. Holly annoyed me too much. It was hard to get passed her flightiness. Jack was more real to me. He was broken a bit where family issues made him doubt himself. He is the reason I was able to finish the book. I wanted to see what he did. I give this book a 3 out of 5
Holly's a reformed free spirit who's ready to settle down and live the ideal life everyone thinks she should. Jack's the male version of Holly except he's not ready to settle down for anything. Except maybe Holly.
I liked Jack. He's the quintessential carefree bachelor who's finally met the one woman who makes him consider giving up his current lifestyle because he knows what they could have together would be infinitely better. He sees nothing wrong with Holly. Her free spirit appeals to him.
Jack isn't what Holly believes she wants in a man. Her Mr. Perfect is the polar opposite of herself. The idea of Holly settling for someone so not like her made me wonder, "What's wrong with her?" Especially since he doesn't seem to have any interest in her whatsoever.
Jack and Holly's charade is a tried and true trope. Make believe is all fun and games until hearts come into the equation and confuses everyone. So it wasn't just putting on a believable show. It was reminding themselves that their pretend time was only for a while and it was a means to an end. Except, thank God, it wasn't.
I know that love happens differently for everyone. One person might find it in someone who's the opposite of them while another will find it someone who's the same as them. The heart knows what it wants. Allowing it to lead instead of your head is when a character often finds the most fulfillment. Jack and Holly began as pretend but they ended up being real. They appreciated each other instead of trying to change one another or for one another.

Holly Sinclair aka Holiday is not one for committing or staying in one place too long; hence the nickname everyone gave her. Yet when tragedy strikes Holly takes a good, long look at her life. She now wants nothing more than to settle down and start a family. However, the man she has chosen will never see her as more than a friend.
Sounds quite contradictory, right? Do not get me wrong there were many great things about this book that had me turning the pages. Then there were other points that could not be looked over and affected the book as a whole. Oh, and by the way, this is part of a series but it is not really mentioned. So it can be read alone as the first book is recapped in The Accidental Boyfriend but it would have been nice to know before I jumped into it.
Pros An adventure seeker, Holly, who is not afraid to live life to the fullest. A loyal and carefree business man, Jack, will do anything he can to see Holly smile and experience life the way she is. He needs Holly to see herself as perfect the way he sees her. There is a fierce connection between all the characters that is hard to find in real life. You can’t help but feel like you want to be a part of their fold. Plus it is set in Paris!
Cons Holly wants Benjamin because he seems stable, reliable, and they have history in the eighth grade. He has always treated her as a best friend but someone who tends to be flighty. She knows this yet tries to change everything who she is for him. She is constantly berating herself because she wants Benjamin but will fall into bed with Jack easy peasey. Then there is the fact that Jack is once again lying about someone being with him.
Overall, it was a quick, sweet read. A contemporary romance at its most endearing but sadly it did not hook me the way I wanted it too. Plus, it seems with this series it is a constant mistaken identity. First, Ivy is Jack’s fiancée (The Accidental Engagement), then Holly is Jack’s girlfriend (The Accidental Boyfriend), and the third one that’s coming out (The Accidental Elopement), Lucia is mistaken for an illegal in need of work with no ties to her grandfather’s fortune.
